Every woman is tested for Gestational Diabetes at around 28 weeks- I was no exception, and unfortunately, I have it. :-( What does this mean? well, NO SNICKERS at Halloween! How unfair was that?!!!!! Actually, no sugar and not many carbs a day. Suddenly, my favorite foods: eggs, cheese and spinach are all really boring because I HAVE to eat them! LAME!!! And if you are reading this, you probably know how much I covet that morning cup of tea with honey, well, morning is when I can have the least carbs, so the honey amount is dismal! BUT.... I love this little girl and I will do my best to do this right. The hardest thing was finding out and then not being given any direction for almost a week!! The order for a dietician was never sent by the doctors office and then people were off for a few days, how dare someone take off when I have this shit and have no idea how to eat! What a week! So we finally got to see a Dietician on Friday and she gave me a monitor, which was very exciting for me because I am a control freak and had no idea what my levels were like all week. I tested myself for the first time and low and behold, it was high! I realized, about an hour after agonizing about how on earth I was to eat when I thought I had been good, that I had had some delicious Pomegranate at lunch and that was most likely what triggered it.....SOOOOOOOO for all you out there reading this, be happy that you can enjoy the sweet things in life- like fruit and honey!! I MISS THEM SO MUCH ALREADY! I guess I can blame my parents for naming me Sheareen, which in Farsi means "sweet"!
